Bug Hotel Craft for Kids

If your kid is anything like my kid, you might have a pile of sticks somewhere around your house. My child loves to collect nature items, and this craft is a great way to use some sticks, and also make a little home for bugs in your garden.

Supplies:

  • An empty and clean plastic bottle

  • Scissors

  • Sticks

  • Twine or string or yarn

  • Optional: paint, paintbrush, and decorations for the bug hotel (we glued a wooden butterfly onto the tube, but any decorations you have would work, even more recycled items or nature items, etc.)

Instructions:

  1. Cut the ends from a plastic bottle to create a cylindrical tube.

  2. Place the sticks into the tube, completely filling the tube until the sticks don’t move around.

  3. Tie string around the sticks on each side of the tube (this will allow you to hang it up).

  4. Optionally, your child can paint and decorate the outside of the plastic tube.

  5. Hang up the bug hotel in your garden or yard, to provide a little home for insects.
