Halloween Books for Early Childhood

This list includes only the Halloween books that are truly loved and enjoyed year after year in my home. None of these books are scary and they all have nice story lines.

Why read Halloween books with your child?

It’s exciting for my daughter when her favorite seasonal books come out of storage or when we pick up a stack of seasonal books from the library. When my daughter was a toddler and didn’t understand what was happening during the Halloween season, books gave her an idea of what to expect and anticipate, such as dressing up in a costume, trick-or-treating, and pumpkin carving. Now that my daughter is almost five, books add to the excitement and celebration of Halloween in our home.

What about storage of seasonal books?

I keep seasonal books up high in a bookcase in my bedroom where they stay tucked away all year until Halloween comes around again. I have read on other blogs the idea to store seasonal books with seasonal decorations. I only own a handful of seasonal books, because storage is at a premium in my family’s small apartment, so I get many books from the library. When it comes to seasonal library books, I recommend planning ahead and placing a hold on the books you want three to four weeks ahead of the holiday.

The Little Ghost Who Was A Quilt

The story of a little ghost who is a quilt instead of a sheet and goes on an adventure. With themes of self-acceptance and finding your strengths, this is truly adorable and sweet story!

To go along with this book we made a little quilt ghost puppet by gluing scraps of fabric and paper onto a piece of card stock. Then we cut it into the shape of a ghost, glued on eyes and a mouth, and taped on a popsicle stick handle.
